After competing in last year's IWA-Mid South's King of the Deathmatch Tournament, BRAD CASH is looking to take home this year's SOTS trophy! And 2 of OPW's own have been added to this year's tournament. After failing to advance to the finals last year, "The Redneck King of the Jungle" JIMMY LYON has decided to enter SOTS once again! And the last participant...bringing the tournament to 9 men once again this year...earned himself a spot in the tournament after an impressive showing against Matt Tremont at "Blood, Guts, & Muffins"...MARC ANGEL rounds out the field of this year's competitors! It was an emotional night this past Saturday in Williamstown, NJ when OPW returned to live action in front of the biggest crowd in our 4 year history! If you don't want to wait for the DVD, read on for the results!
Our evening began with tribute to our late friend & wrestling super fan, Kevin Hogan. During the dedication of the venue to him, OPW Management brought out ECW Original "The Franchise" Shane Douglas to help pay tribute to Hogan & some recently departed stars of the squared circle. Archadia w/Colin West defeated Gran Akuma - Akuma had threatened to cave in Archadia's chest earlier in the week & it looked as if that's exactly what was going to happen. Eventually, the pace of the match evened out as both men tried to best each other. The managerial prowess of Colin West paid off though & Archadia scored the win over the 2015 Master of the Mat. Kyle the Beast defeated Ryan Galeone w/Loudy - "The Financial Miracle" brought his newest client to face the man who destroyed Xavier Cross last month. After Loudy attempted to establish ground rules for the match, the OPW faithful solidly got behind KTB. Both men brought the fight to each other, but the Beast emerged victorious. Sean Carr defeated Devon Moore - After coming up short in the first round of the OPW Unlimited Title Tournament last month, Sean Carr returned to OPW to face the man who advanced. Both men utilized fast paced styles & took to the skies in their attempts to assert dominance. To the surprise of many in attendance, it was Carr who defeated the veteran. Jeff Cannonball defeated Jimmy Lyon - The bad blood had been building for over a year between these two & finally came to a head this past Saturday in a Last Man Standing Match. The animosity was at a point where the ring was no longer sufficient to contain Cannonball & Lyon as they brawled around the arena & a variety of weapons were utilized. A vicious powerbomb onto a shopping cart was enough to put Lyon down for the 10 count. Bill Avery & Qefka the Quiet defeated Alex Payne & Pelle Primeau w/Shane Hagadorn - It began as a Fans Bring the Muffins Match in the newly christened Kevin Hogan Memorial Hall between the brave one & the pro wrestling mime (check out the muffin toss at facebook.com/OnPointWrestling/videos/1423610354378284/). Bitter that they had been left off of the card, the trio assaulted Avery & Qefka and turned the contest into an impromptu tag team match. Hagadorn tried to keep both of his clients on the same page, but was ultimately unsuccessful as in-fighting led to Bill Avery scoring the pinfall for this team! Unbreakable Andy defeated Steve Scott, Drew Blood, & Drake Chambers - The road to crowning the 1st ever OPW Unlimited Champion later this year continued this past weekend as 4 more competitors looked to advance to the finals. The Fantastic 4-Way is a staple in OPW & these 4 men brought more than their A game in their quest for the gold. Ultimately, it was Unbreakable Andy who scored the win. Post match saw an attempt at sportsmanlike conduct & a challenge for 5/6 issued by Drew Blood. If Andy & Drake Chambers can defeat Notorious Inc, Blood will shake Andy's hand. Tony Deppen defeated Joey Janela - The richest prize in OPW was on the line as Tony Deppen defended his gold against the man he beat for it last December. Joey Janela unleashed an absolutely vicious side of himself rarely seen; berating Deppen on the mic, chopping him until his chest bled...even going so far as to duct tape Deppen to the ring ropes. Somehow, the champion willed himself to continue & dished out some offense of his own...even going so far as to tell the ring crew to take down the top rope. After both men fought to the outside, Deppen wrapped the top rope around Janela's neck & began climbing up one of the support beams in the arena with the challenger in tow. Janela was forced to say "I QUIT" or ultimately pass out. Matt Tremont defeated Marc Angel - 19 months of bad blood between "The Bulldozer" & Angel came to a head in this No Rope Barbed Wire Match...bad blood that was shed all over the canvas of the squared circle. Thunderous chair shots & screams of agony filled the arena as the OPW faithful looked on in awe. When it looked as if Angel was about to deliver a savage beating to Tremont after hog tying him, Angel's son once again found himself face to face with his father in the ring...buying Tremont time to escape. Angel's son then turned around & kicked Deathmatch Wrestling's Grand Slam Champion in the groin, tearing off his own Bulldozer shirt to reveal his father's shirt underneath. But it wasn't enough to keep Tremont grounded as he ultimately drove his foe through a barbed wire board. Post match saw Tremont pay his respects to Angel & say the issues have been settled. Father & son reunited in the ring as the OPW crowd chanted "THANK YOU BOTH" in appreciation for what they saw. OPW returns to live action on Saturday, May 6th as we present "Survival of the Sickest 2" in Williamstown, NJ at the Kevin Hogan Memorial Hall fka OTW Arena.
