Chris Behringer On Point Wrestling www.OPWrestling.com Follow me on Twitter @OPWchris It was an emotional night this past Saturday in Williamstown, NJ when OPW returned to live action in front of the biggest crowd in our 4 year history! If you don't want to wait for the DVD, read on for the results!
Our evening began with tribute to our late friend & wrestling super fan, Kevin Hogan. During the dedication of the venue to him, OPW Management brought out ECW Original "The Franchise" Shane Douglas to help pay tribute to Hogan & some recently departed stars of the squared circle. Archadia w/Colin West defeated Gran Akuma - Akuma had threatened to cave in Archadia's chest earlier in the week & it looked as if that's exactly what was going to happen. Eventually, the pace of the match evened out as both men tried to best each other. The managerial prowess of Colin West paid off though & Archadia scored the win over the 2015 Master of the Mat. Kyle the Beast defeated Ryan Galeone w/Loudy - "The Financial Miracle" brought his newest client to face the man who destroyed Xavier Cross last month. After Loudy attempted to establish ground rules for the match, the OPW faithful solidly got behind KTB. Both men brought the fight to each other, but the Beast emerged victorious. Sean Carr defeated Devon Moore - After coming up short in the first round of the OPW Unlimited Title Tournament last month, Sean Carr returned to OPW to face the man who advanced. Both men utilized fast paced styles & took to the skies in their attempts to assert dominance. To the surprise of many in attendance, it was Carr who defeated the veteran. Jeff Cannonball defeated Jimmy Lyon - The bad blood had been building for over a year between these two & finally came to a head this past Saturday in a Last Man Standing Match. The animosity was at a point where the ring was no longer sufficient to contain Cannonball & Lyon as they brawled around the arena & a variety of weapons were utilized. A vicious powerbomb onto a shopping cart was enough to put Lyon down for the 10 count. Bill Avery & Qefka the Quiet defeated Alex Payne & Pelle Primeau w/Shane Hagadorn - It began as a Fans Bring the Muffins Match in the newly christened Kevin Hogan Memorial Hall between the brave one & the pro wrestling mime (check out the muffin toss at facebook.com/OnPointWrestling/videos/1423610354378284/). Bitter that they had been left off of the card, the trio assaulted Avery & Qefka and turned the contest into an impromptu tag team match. Hagadorn tried to keep both of his clients on the same page, but was ultimately unsuccessful as in-fighting led to Bill Avery scoring the pinfall for this team! Unbreakable Andy defeated Steve Scott, Drew Blood, & Drake Chambers - The road to crowning the 1st ever OPW Unlimited Champion later this year continued this past weekend as 4 more competitors looked to advance to the finals. The Fantastic 4-Way is a staple in OPW & these 4 men brought more than their A game in their quest for the gold. Ultimately, it was Unbreakable Andy who scored the win. Post match saw an attempt at sportsmanlike conduct & a challenge for 5/6 issued by Drew Blood. If Andy & Drake Chambers can defeat Notorious Inc, Blood will shake Andy's hand. Tony Deppen defeated Joey Janela - The richest prize in OPW was on the line as Tony Deppen defended his gold against the man he beat for it last December. Joey Janela unleashed an absolutely vicious side of himself rarely seen; berating Deppen on the mic, chopping him until his chest bled...even going so far as to duct tape Deppen to the ring ropes. Somehow, the champion willed himself to continue & dished out some offense of his own...even going so far as to tell the ring crew to take down the top rope. After both men fought to the outside, Deppen wrapped the top rope around Janela's neck & began climbing up one of the support beams in the arena with the challenger in tow. Janela was forced to say "I QUIT" or ultimately pass out. Matt Tremont defeated Marc Angel - 19 months of bad blood between "The Bulldozer" & Angel came to a head in this No Rope Barbed Wire Match...bad blood that was shed all over the canvas of the squared circle. Thunderous chair shots & screams of agony filled the arena as the OPW faithful looked on in awe. When it looked as if Angel was about to deliver a savage beating to Tremont after hog tying him, Angel's son once again found himself face to face with his father in the ring...buying Tremont time to escape. Angel's son then turned around & kicked Deathmatch Wrestling's Grand Slam Champion in the groin, tearing off his own Bulldozer shirt to reveal his father's shirt underneath. But it wasn't enough to keep Tremont grounded as he ultimately drove his foe through a barbed wire board. Post match saw Tremont pay his respects to Angel & say the issues have been settled. Father & son reunited in the ring as the OPW crowd chanted "THANK YOU BOTH" in appreciation for what they saw. "Thank You, Hogan" Thursday, February 2nd 2017 is a day that's going to hurt for a long time. Whether you're a new fan of On Point or have been with us since the beginning, there's a very good chance you ran into Kevin Hogan at an OPW event or any number of independent wrestling events in the northeast. Affectionately known as Whack Packer or the Muffin Man, Kevin touched a great many of people in the industry. Some members of the OPW family offered up these comments on social media: "Kevin Hogan was the indy version of the ECW fan, Hat Guy. Any & every show, everyone knew Hogan. Rest in peace, buddy." - Loudy "RIP to one of the most beloved independent wrestling fans, Kevin "Whack Packer" Hogan. A sad day for everyone." - Joey Janela "Heartbroken to hear about the loss of Kevin Hogan. One of the most universally beloved guys in the indie wrestling scene." - Gran Akuma "RIP Kevin Hogan. Unreal. As Tony Deppen just said to me, wrestling needs more guys like him." - Jeff Cannonball "Totally shocked & saddened by the passing of Kevin Hogan. Such a great human being & a lover of wrestling. The shows won't be the same without you man. Rest easy my brother." - Lowlife Louie "Still can't believe & very saddened that long time wrestling fan Kevin Hogan has passed. Truly passionate about wrestling & all around awesome person who put smiles on everyone's faces. Shows won't be the same anymore without you front & center with Cluck!" - Steve Scott "I'm saddened to hear that the wrestling community has lost Kevin Hogan. I'll miss seeing his face at literally every wrestling show." - Referee Dan Yost Throughout the day, OPW Management was trying to figure out the best way to pay tribute to a man who had such a positive impact on a lot of people. Late Thursday night, "The Bulldozer" Matt Tremont gave us the answer. "I know various promotions will be doing something special to honor Kevin Hogan for his years of support. After talking with Jim Molineaux at OTW & Jeff at OPW...at the next On Point Wrestling event in Williamstown, NJ on March 4th, we will hang a banner in memory of the "Muffin Man" in the venue. That banner will hang when On Point runs there every other month. And starting March 4th & going forward for all OPW LIVE events at OTW Arena, the venue will be renamed the................ 'Kevin Hogan Memorial Hall'. I'm going to reach out to his family so they can be present as well. Hogan's name will live on forever. A big thank you to Hogan for all his years of supporting professional wrestling, and all the local promotions in the area. Hogan was present for every On Point event since we started in 2013. This will be our small part in paying homage to someone that meant a great deal to so many people in the wrestling community." Please join us on March 4th in Williamstown, NJ as we say farewell to a fallen friend & bring down the house as he watches in a front row seat from up above. You're going to be sorely missed, Kevin. Rest easy. Chris Behringer On Point Wrestling www.OPWrestling.com Follow me on Twitter @OPWchris Over the weekend at OPW's 4th anniversary, 2 names were announced for this year's "Survival of the Sickest" tournament. Those of you who enjoy carnage with your professional wrestling are going to enjoy this news! Coming to OPW on May 6th...one man who has competed in TAIPEI DEATHMATCHES & a "Texas Bull Rope, Barbed Wire Boards, & Cactus Pit Match"...TANK is coming to OPW on 5/6! Another competitor signed for "SOTS 2" is a man who puts "the death in deathmatches" & "the violence in vendetta"...JD HORROR makes his east coast debut on 5/6! And our third individual needs no introduction. After having what many fans are calling a match of the year contender at "OPW 4"...we want to say we heard you. We heard your "PLEASE COME BACK" chants. OPW is bringing back G-RAVER for "SOTS 2"! "Survival of the Sickest 2" will be held at the OTW Arena on Saturday, May 6th! Keep checking back here & official OPW social media for updates on new competitors, ticket information, & more! As you may or may not be aware, for the 1st time in our 4 year history, On Point Wrestling had to tap out to Mother Nature this past weekend due to a particularly nasty snowstorm that hit the northeast. Rather than jeopardize the safety of our fans, talent, & staff, the decision was made to reschedule #OPW4 to Sunday, January 22nd. In addition to the date change, there's been a change to the card. Due to a prior commitment, Joey Janela is unable to make the show. OPW Management has found a substitute challenger. On 1/22, LIO RUSH debuts for OPW & challenges Tony Deppen for the title! If you're not familiar with Lio Rush's career here are some of his accolades: - Back to back Shane Shamrock Memorial Cup winner. - Former MCW Tag Team Champion. - 2x CZW Wired Champion. - 2016 Ring of Honor Top Prospect. To purchase or reserve tickets, please contact Matt Tremont (facebook.com/matt.tremont.7) ASAP to purchase or reserve your tickets! Keep up on all things On Point by liking us on Facebook (facebook.com/OnPointWrestling/) & following us on Twitter @OnPointWrestlin Since its founding 4 years ago, there have been many who have referred to On Point Wrestling as "the Little Promotion That Could". Over the course of 4 years, thanks to all of you emotionally investing in the On Point experience, OPW has produced 22 live events & has found itself a home base at the OTW Arena in Williamstown, NJ. Talent have cut their teeth in OPW & are being noticed up and down the East Coast by wrestling fans & promoters alike. On Point Wrestling has set a standard of excellence in professional wrestling. This Saturday will be no different when we celebrate our 4th anniversary! Let's take a look at the card: After coming up short in last month's Masters of the Mat tournament, "Too Hot" Steve Scott looks to get back on the winning track when he faces the returning Qefka the Quiet for the first time ever in singles action. As a result of a vicious attack on Drake Chambers last month, OPW Officials have decided that the perpetrators (Alex Payne & Pelle Primeau w/Shane Hagadorn) will face Chambers & the man who came to his rescue, Unbreakable Andy, in a tag team grudge match. Heading into this Saturday's event, Loudy demanded competition for his "beast" of a client, Xavier Cross. "The Financial Miracle" may have inadvertently written a check Cross' body can't cash; he faces Kyle the Beast in singles action at our 4 year anniversary spectacular. Late last month, news broke that On Point Wrestling would be creating a new championship that will be defended exclusively in our staple Fantastic 4-Way matches. This Saturday...you will see Sean Carr, Archadia, Devon Moore, & Gran Akuma compete in a Fantastic 4-Way as the road to crowning the 1st OPW Unlimited Champion begins. You can read more about this new championship at http://opwrestling.weebly.com/news/new-championship-coming-to-opw-in-2017. After a series of mysterious messages found their way to OPW Management, we began to wonder who was crazy enough to want to pick a fight with Jeff Cannonball. For the 1st time ever, G-RAVER will be competing in an OPW ring! He will face Jeff Cannonball in a deathmatch with Carpet Strips & CINDER BLOCKS as the instruments of destruction this Saturday! As anyone in wrestling can tell you, sometimes, good friends make better enemies. Issues between OPW Originals Drew Blood & Matt Tremont started in September & came to a head last month at "Masters of the Mat 2" when Blood nailed his longtime friend with a low blow and continued his blatant disrespect. Both men will meet once again this Saturday in the 1st ever DEVIL'S BULL ROPE MATCH! In a traditional bull rope match, a cowbell is the weapon of choice attached to the center of the rope. But, this is OPW! The cowbell will be removed & a CHEESE GRATER will take its place! And in our main event, the man who has become synonymous with On Point Wrestling, the 2016 Master of the Mat...Tony Deppen...will defend the On Point Wrestling Championship against "The Bad Boy" Joey Janela! With stakes as high as the OPW Title, there MUST be a winner! Therefore...the Last Man Standing will emerge with the title of champion on Saturday night! It all goes down THIS SATURDAY, January 7th at the OTW Arena in Williamstown, NJ at 7 PM! Front Row is sold out, but you can check for upgrades this Saturday night in the event someone cancels. General Admission tickets will be available at the door for $20! Be sure to use the official hashtag for the event, #OPW4, when discussing all across social media! We'll see you this Saturday night! Let's sellout Williamstown once again & show wrestling fans that the OTW Arena is THE place to be if you're a wrestling fan! |
