Deathmatch wrestling tournament season officially kicked off in the northeast over the weekend when OPW presented a night of carnage before an absolutely packed house in Williamstown, NJ's hallowed Kevin Hogan Memorial Hall. If you don't want to wait for the DVD, read on for the results.
- In non tournament action, the team of Unbreakable Andy & 2 Cold Scorpio defeated Notorious Inc. Andy informed the crowd before the match got underway of Chambers' injury. Before he could announce his partner, Notorious began the beatdown. The 2 on 1 assault finally ended when Scorpio hit the ring to everyone's surprise & the impromptu tag team picked up the win. Post match, Drew Blood made good on his promise & shook Andy's hand. Matt Tremont defeated the debuting Colt 45 in the 1st round Pallets of Pain Match. - Pallets adorned in barbed wire & gusset plates were the implements of destruction in this 1st round tournament match. Colt 45 was out to make a name for himself against the greatest deathmatch wrestler in the game today. Despite coming up short, the newcomer earned the respect of the Bulldozer & everyone in attendance when he received a very loud "PLEASE COME BACK" chant. Jeff Cannonball defeated Brad Cash & Tank in the 1st round Home Run Derby Match. - All 3 competitors came out swinging for the fences in this brutal matchup. Bats adorned with things like barbed wire, thumbtacks, Legos, etc. were all utilized as all 3 looked to advance to the 2nd round. The brutality escalated when Cannonball took a thumbtack bat to the neck of Brad Cash & forced him to submit. G-Raver defeated March Angel in the 1st round Barbed Wire Boards Match. - Angel's no stranger to barbed wire, especially after the match he had in March. The returning G-Raver brought his brand of brutality back to OPW, going as far as to stab Angel's head with tattoo needles in a fashion similar to Masada's trademark BBQ skewers. Despite bringing the fight to G-Raver, Angel came up short in this contest. JD Horror defeated Danny Havoc in the 1st round Carpet Striptease Match. - All sorts of carpet strip weapons found their way to the ring. A carpet strip cylinder, carpet strips forming a red carpet...even carpet strip swords & shields! Despite having the hometown crowd behind him, Danny Havoc found himself eliminated in the 1st round by the debuting west coast star! Jeff Cannonball defeated Matt Tremont in the 2nd round Fans Bring the Weapons Match. - Cannonball entered this match having never pinned Tremont's shoulders for a win & was out to prove himself against his friend. The OPW faithful brought an arsenal for both of these men to maim each other with. The ring wasn't enough to contain these 2 warriors & the brawl found its way outside. The urge to prove himself powered Cannonball through Tremont's onslaught & gave him the win. Post match, Tremont paid his respects to Cannonball & told him to "Win the whole f*cking thing.". JD Horror defeated G-Raver in the 2nd Round Cemetery Gates Match. - Cinder blocks & a 7 foot tall casket...you read that right...A CASKET, were the weapons of choice in this contest. After seeing Havoc vanquished in the 1st round, the crowd was completely behind G-Raver in what turned out to be an epic BLOODBATH. Despite giving it his all, G-Raver ultimately fell to JD Horror. Tony Deppen defeated Sean Carr to retain the OPW Title. - In non tournament action, OPW's top prize was on the line. Brash newcomer Carr impressed OPW Management with his past 2 performances & was awarded a shot against the current reigning champion. Both men brought the fight to each other & bested one another at every turn. In the end, despite assistance from a foreign object, Carr found himself looking at the lights for the 3 count & the reign of Tony Deppen continued. Jeff Cannonball defeated JD Horror in the Brush Away Your Sins match. - Wire brushes were affixed to the top rope for both men to use against each other. Carpet strip contraptions, chairs, & even a swimming pool full of rubbing alcohol were among the other weapons in the match. Cannonball & Horror defeated some of the top names in the deathmatch wrestling field to advance all the way to the finals. Despite the blood loss & maiming each endured on their long, bloody roads, it didn't stop them from bringing the brutality. Ultimately, Cannonball found himself with his arm raised in victory as the OPW faithful roared their approval. Post match saw the 2016 tournament winner, Lowlife Louie Ramos, present Cannonball with the trophy & his tearful praise. Tony Deppen made his way to the ringside area to congratulate Cannonball & offered him a shot at the OPW Title on 7/22 at our next event. Finally, Cannonball thanked OPW Management for giving him a shot & believing in him & thanked the fans in attendance. OPW returns to live action on Saturday, July 22nd in Williamstown, NJ.
